Penn is a conceptual artist and independent contract university lecturer/examiner in the practises of art history and conceptual art practice. She is ranked among the top 100 000 artists globally.
Penn currently researches, writes and paints in upwards of 25 layers of paint on her canvases. Each layer is reproduced in a unique artists’ book which documents the narrative and progress of her paintings. Each unique book is reproduced by hand: the painting and the book are the singular artwork.
Penn’s work is scattered around the world with her entire corpus of unique artists’ books titled an An Encyclopedia of Everything acquired in 2022 by Wits Art Museum. It is currently housed (along with her Mail Art collection) at the Jack Ginsberg Centre for Book Arts. She has exhibited in America, France, Japan, UK, Argentina, Russia – and as she says -‘etcetera’.
